The Kinalas, despite being deemed one of the worst food by the Food Atlas, is actually one of the most beloved dish by the Nagueños, and for good reason. It is, in fact, enjoyed too much by the people that the city even decided to honor this dish with its very own Kinalas Festival.
The Kinalas Festival is a celebration that comes each year on the charter anniversary of Naga City every 18th of June. The festival is a week-long event that celebrates everything about the Kinalas and more. With some participating stalls even coming up with their own twists of the popular dish.
Following the Charter Day Banchetto, the festivities started off with the opening of Fiesta Royale De Kinalas, also known as the Kinalas Festival 2024. The week-long event coincided with the launch of Naga City’s new tourism brand, “Naga ‘Yon” back in June 18 and will last until June 23, 2024.
Visitors will be able to enjoy Kinalas in a slew of different shapes and sizes. While the average Kinalas may already differ between stalls, some even come in completely different forms like Kitchen Everywhere’s “Pizza Kinalas” and “Shawarma Kinalas”. And if you’re wondering who’s there then here’s every participating Kinalas shop that you can indulge in the festival:
- Mang Kok’s Kinalas
- Kitchen Everywhere
- JNJ Kinalas
- Wawek’s Lechon Kinalas
- Didick’s Kina-log
- Mighteng’s – Dayangdang
- CJ’s Foodhaws Crispy Kinalas and Lutong Bahay
- UMA Hotel + Residences’ PANATA CAFE
So what are you waiting for? Head on over to Plaza Rizal between 5 PM to 11 PM before the end of June 23 and experience the taste of Naga, one Kinalas at a time.
